Zitkala-Ša (1876–1938) also Gertrude Simmons Bonnin or “Red Bird”

Zitkála-Šá (1876–1938)  pronounced zitkála-ša, which translates to “Red Bird” was a Sioux writer, editor, musician, teacher and political activist.

Zitkala-Ša wrote the libretto and songs for The Sun Dance (1913), the first American Indian opera.

She was a co-founder of the National Council of American Indians, her life has been recorded in the biography Red Bird, Red Power: The Life and Legacy of Zitkála-Šá

(Inspired in the photo made by Gertrude Käsebier)

Very grateful because she can stay also there, it made me think about America now and all the horrible facts with the Motto: “Make America great again” and I wonder me …but which one?
